Just so you know this is NOT a gin. The makers of Escubac are very clear to make this known! But this is a curious spirit and one that tempts you back for more.
It is made in the same way as Gin but there isn’t a juniper berry in sight. I bought this last Christmas for my mother, as we both have a rather hefty love of gin and thought this may be a little bit of a change. The spirit is yellow in colour but that probably is due to the caraway, cardamon and saffron they add for a little warm feeling that make your lips curl up the right way.
The cocktails on their website looked a bit complicated for us simple northern folk so we opted just to add FeverTree Mediterranean Tonic water with ice. The result was mixed. I enjoyed the flavour which was soft and refreshing but drier than gin. If you have tried a spicy gin like Opihr you will know what I mean. All in all this won’t replace my love of Gin but it is certainly an option for something a bit different. I may need my man to come up with a little cocktail for this little off the wall number. I’ll keep you posted.
